FIRST FLOATING ART SALON IN THE WORLD
Artists' salons were informal meeting places for artists, intellectuals and cultural figures in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
These salons were organized by influential hosts who welcomed artists, writers, musicians, and other creative people into their homes.
The Attersee shipping company presents its flagship, the MS "Stadt Vöcklabruck", as the "Klimt-Mahler ship" entirely in the style of the world artists and Attersee lovers Gustav Klimt and Gustav Mahler, who liked to spend their summer holidays at Lake Attersee and created numerous works here.
To kick off the Gustav Mahler Festival, Managing Director Doris Cuturi-Stern, in cooperation with the European Capital of Culture Bad Ischl Salzkammergut 2024, invited guests to the premiere cruise on the Klimt-Mahler ship and simultaneously opened the first Floating Artists' Salon of the world.

JUNE 1, 2024 I STEINBACH AM ATTERSEE
For the first time, Mahler's Resurrection Symphony will be performed with full choir and orchestra in the very place where the majority of the Second Symphony was composed. Apart from the first movement, Gustav Mahler composed his Second Symphony entirely in Steinbach am Attersee. Life and death, the Last Judgment and the Resurrection are the powerful themes that permeate this musical masterpiece.
Almost 100 years later, Friedrich Gulda created his cello concerto in the Meierhof in Weißenbach and called it a declaration of love to the Salzkammergut.
"I've already composed all of that away!"

Symphony No. 2
"Resurrection Symphony"
Gustav Mahler's Second Symphony is not only a significant work in classical music; it reflects the existential questions and themes of human life. Life and death, the Last Judgment and the Resurrection are the powerful motifs that permeate this musical masterpiece. Ultimately, the final movement leads to a triumphant emergence from darkness. Here, Mahler unites choir and orchestra in a powerful expression of faith in resurrection and the immortality of the soul.
Friedrich Gulda
Cello Concerto
"A love letter to the Salzkammergut"
The Cello Concerto is undoubtedly a masterpiece that transcends the boundaries of traditional classical music: a unique fusion of folk, jazz, and classical elements. It embodies Gulda's unconventional approach to music. Full of expressive elements and creative twists, the work uniquely captures the beauty of the region. Cello meets wind orchestra, percussion, and electric guitar. A virtuosic, sophisticated, yet humorous musical journey through various genres, featuring the exceptional talent of Emilian Schmid as soloist, is sure to captivate audiences.
